Interview for NOVOSTI

In the weekend edition of the NOVOSTI newspaper from March 14th 2021. an interview with the project members was published:

“MAKING A SOFTWARE FOR COWS TO BE HEALTHY:  A project of Novi Sad scientists for improvement of animal husbandry and greater export chances”

“In order to making cattle breeding in Serbia competitive on the international market and to use export opportunities, we need animals with exceptional characteristics: they have to be healthy and fertile, to give a lot of milk, to grow quickly and to produce a lot of meat. Without such characteristics, we cannot compete with other participants on the international market. ”

The main application with the animal database was created

The main application with the animal database was created. This includes models for the main features of the existing data.

Part of the software development was also data importers. The existing data on animals was imported into the database, and now the relations between generations can be fully followed as needed.

The application is integrated with a web interface that will allow interested parties easy access to the needed data. This may also be used in the future for direct data entry from the breeding organizations. An integral part of the application is the export functions that adapt the data to formats needed for specialized analytics software. The web application will also allow for some of these exporters to be used by third parties in the interest of advancing scientific knowledge.

Computer equipment has arrived

Computer equipment was delivered to complete the already existing computer equipment, which is planned for the needs of the project.

The delivered equipment includes a storage device, two hard drives, 32 GB of memory and an additional power supply of 500 W.

The laboratory equipment for the project has been completed

Equipment for the Laboratory for Molecular Genetics

In the second quarter of the project, laboratory equipment for the project was completed and installed. This equipment is now part of the Laboratory for Molecular Genetics.

The first part of equipment has arrived

The first part of the main equipment and consumables has arrived. Obtained: UV-cabinet for PCR, Vortex mixer, Eppendorf Charger Carousel 2, Spectrophotometer, Mini centrifuge, Erlenmeyer flask, and Graduated cylinder.

The project has started

An agreement on financing the BioITGenoSelect project was signed today between the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia and the participating institutions: the Faculty of Agriculture, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Technical Sciences of the University of Novi Sad, so that a two-year project cycle began today.
